Rules for importing products

Today’s post describes to the rules of border crossing. If you or your close ones are going to travel abroad, you should be familiar with the items prohibited for transportation. Thanks to this, you will be able to avoid problems.
What is prohibited to bring to Poland:
- Meat and meat products;
- Canned meat products (both homemade and store-bought)
- Milk and dairy products;
- Pure chocolate bars, except for one open bar per person;
- Narcotic drugs;
- Weapons.
What is allowed to be imported to Poland and in what quantity
Poland has approved a list of products that can be imported into the country but in limited quantities:
- Fresh fruits and vegetables, except for raw potatoes (up to 5 kg per person)
- Fish and products containing fish (up to 5 kg per person);
- Eggs and products containing eggs (up to 2 kg per person) — 1 kg can contain from 14 to 25 medium-sized eggs;
- Coffee (up to 500 g per person) and tea (up to 100 g per person);
- Honey (up to 2 kg per person);
- Sweets and any confectionery products with a milk and chocolate content not exceeding 20%;
- Infant formula (up to 5 kg).
Products containing tobacco — you are allowed to import only one item from this list:
- Cigarettes — 40 pcs;
- Cigars (up to 3 g per piece) — 20 pcs;
- Cigars — 10 pcs;
- Smoking tobacco — 50 grams.
Alcoholic beverages:
- Strong alcohol (over 22% alcohol content) — 1 liter;
- Drinks with alcohol content up to 22% — 2 liters;
- Wine — 4 liters;
- Beer — 16 liters.
Rules for importing medicines to Poland
You can carry medicines that do not have a strong effect without a prescription: painkillers, anti-seasickness pills, or vitamins. For more strong medicines (tranquilizers, psychotropic substances, etc.), you need a prescription.
In Poland, as in other EU countries, it is forbidden to import medicines containing codeine or ephedrine, such as Nurofen Plus, Ketanow, and Broncholityn, although they are widely used in Ukraine.
Therefore, to avoid any problems at customs, be sure to familiarize yourself with the composition of the drug in detail before leaving. Importing prohibited drugs can result in confiscation and a fine for an administrative violation.
If you are undergoing treatment with the above-mentioned medicines, you need to go through the declaration procedure, and for this purpose, provide the following package of documents
- A copy of your medical record;
- A prescription for medicines from your doctor;
- A receipt from the pharmacy (where you purchased the medicines);
- A certificate (with the diagnosis, the name of the drug and its required amount, and the period of administration at the time of the trip) certified by the seal of the medical institution and signed by your doctor and the head physician.
The permissible volume of medicines to be imported is 500 ml.
Penalties for violation of customs regulations in Poland
In case of violation of the rules of transportation of goods across the Polish border, Polish customs officers may:
- Confiscate prohibited items.
- Impose a fine of 50 euros per unit (alcohol is counted as bottles, and cigarettes as packs).
- Deport and ban entry to EU countries for 5 years (used as a last resort).
